Gifting and multi-address shipping, one checkout

Five minutes. Works on every Shopify plan and theme.

  1. Turn on the modules you wantIn GiftSplit → Modules, switch on Gift messages, Gift wrap and/or Multi-address shipping. Each one works on its own.
  2. Add the cart blockOnline Store → Themes → Customize → open the Cart page → Add block → GiftSplit. It adds the gift-message box, gift-wrap option and the "Send to multiple addresses" button next to your checkout button.
  3. Or use the app embedIf your theme has no cart block area, enable the GiftSplit app embed (Theme settings → App embeds). It places the same controls on the cart page automatically.
  4. Add the order status block (optional)Settings → Checkout → Customize → Order status page → Add app block → GiftSplit shipments. Buyers then see every recipient’s shipment and tracking in one place.
  5. Place a test orderAdd two products, click "Send to multiple addresses", split them between two addresses and pay with a test gateway. Open GiftSplit → Sends to watch the recipient orders appear.
  6. Set your Klaviyo filter (if you use Klaviyo)In every post-purchase flow trigger add the filter "Source Name does not equal giftsplit". Recipient orders also carry the tag giftsplit-child at creation. Your buyer enters each flow once, on the paid order.

FAQ

How does GiftSplit avoid double-counting revenue?

The buyer pays one order (the parent). Each recipient order is created at $0 with a 100% "Paid on order #…" discount, so Shopify reports count the money once. The recipient orders are the ones you pick, pack and ship.

Does it work with my theme?

Yes. The recipient page is hosted by GiftSplit under your store domain (/apps/giftsplit), so nothing is injected into your theme’s cart code. The cart block and app embed only add a button and two optional fields.

Do I need Shopify Plus?

No. Everything works on every plan. Buyers pay in Shopify’s own checkout, so Shop Pay and your payment methods work as usual.

What about inventory?

Stock is deducted once, on the paid parent order. Recipient orders are created without touching inventory.

Which discount codes work?

Percentage off, fixed amount off and free shipping codes that apply to all products and all customers. Buy X get Y and product-specific codes aren’t supported on multi-address orders yet. Automatic discounts don’t apply.

Can customers pay with a gift card?

Not on multi-address orders: Shopify doesn’t allow gift cards on draft-order checkouts. Normal single-address orders are unaffected.

Who gets the emails?

The buyer gets the normal order confirmation for the paid order and, if you leave it on, a shipping confirmation per recipient order. Recipients never get store emails: their email is only stored on the gift note.

How is tax calculated?

Default mode: tax is finalised in checkout on the buyer’s address, and the per-address tax you see on the recipient page is an estimate. Growth plan "Split accounting" mode puts the real per-destination tax on each recipient order and silently cancels the parent, for stores that file destination-based sales tax.

A recipient order failed to create. What now?

GiftSplit retries five times with increasing gaps. If it still fails you get an alert in the app (and by email). Open Sends → the order → Repair. Nothing is lost: the buyer has paid and the recipient list is saved.

Can my staff create a multi-recipient order for a corporate client?

Yes, on the Growth plan: Staff sends → paste or upload a CSV of recipients → GiftSplit creates the checkout and emails your client a payment link, or you mark it paid if they paid by bank transfer.
